Fosamax® plus D is indicated for the reatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. For the treatment of osteoporosis, Fosamax® plus D increases bone mass and reduces the incidence of fractures, including those of the hip and spine (vertebral compression fractures). Osteoporosis may be confirmed by the finding of low bone mass in the body. Fosamax® plus D can also used for treatment to increase bone mass in men suffering from osteoporosis.
Side effects of Fosamax® plus D are similar to those of Fosamax®, and can include: bone and joint pain, diarrhea, indigestion, muscle pain, nausea, abdominal pain, and constipation
Less common side effects of Fosamax® plus D include: Abdominal distention, acid backup, difficulty swallowing, esophageal ulcers, excessive gas, headache, stomach ulcers, and vomiting
Very rare side effects of Fosamax® plus D include: Changes in taste, esophageal blockage or perforation, eye pain, mouth sores, muscle cramps, rash, redness of the skin, swollen face and throat, hives, and inflammation of the stomach

As with Fosamax®, certain people should avoid taking Fosamax® plus D. Patients with Certain disorders of the esophagus, who have inability to stand or sit upright for at least 30, severe kidney disease, low levels of calcium in their blood, or patients who are allergic to Fosamax® plus D, should all avoid taking Fosamax® plus D.
